Leopard Lily
Ledebouria Socialis
The Ledebouria socialis, also known as the Leopard Lily, is a quirky little bulbous plant that’s as tough as it is beautiful.
Its slender, lance shaped leaves are patterned with silvery green tones and spotted with deep purple markings. Compact, unusual, and surprisingly resilient, it’s a true conversation starter for any indoor collection.
✨ Why we love it:
🌱 Striking leopard spotted foliage that looks wild and unique
🌱 Compact and clumping growth, great for windowsills or small spaces
🌱 Easy going and drought tolerant once established
🌱 A collector’s favourite with a truly unusual look
🌱 Produces delicate little flower spikes in the right conditions
💡 Light: Thrives in bright, indirect light but can handle some direct morning or late afternoon sun. Too little light will dull its bold markings.
💧 Water: Allow soil to dry out between waterings. This bulbous beauty dislikes staying soggy and prefers a soak and dry routine.
🌱 Humidity: Not fussy, adapts happily to average household humidity.
🌡️ Temperature: Prefers warmth, ideally 16-28 °C. Protect from cold draughts and never allow the bulbs to sit in freezing conditions.
🚫 Toxicity: Mildly toxic if ingested, keep away from pets and children.
🌿 Top Tip: Don’t bury the bulbs completely, keep the tops exposed just above the soil surface. This prevents rot and helps the plant grow strong and healthy, while showing off its quirky bulbous base.
