Clusia Rosea

Clusia Rosea Information

Natural Habitat

Clusia rosea is native to tropical regions of the Caribbean, Central America and northern South America. In the wild, it grows in warm, bright conditions and can even begin life as an epiphyte.

Growth Habit

Clusia Rosea grows upright with thick, oval leaves and sturdy stems. Growth is steady during spring and summer and slows in winter.

Clusia Rosea - Full Care Guide

Light - Place in bright, indirect light. It can tolerate some gentle direct sun.

Water - Allow the top layer of compost to dry before watering again. Avoid leaving the plant in standing water.

Humidity - Adapts well to average indoor humidity.

Temperature - Thrives between 18-27°C. Protect from temperatures below 15°C.

Soil - Use a well draining houseplant compost to prevent root issues.

Feeding - Feed monthly during spring and summer with a balanced liquid fertiliser.

Propagation - Can be propagated from stem cuttings. Allow cuttings to root in water or moist compost before potting up.

Why is it called the Autograph Plant?

The thick leaves can be gently etched with a message. As the leaf heals, the writing becomes visible, giving the plant its nickname.

Is Clusia Rosea easy to care for?

Yes. It is adaptable, drought tolerant compared to many tropical plants and suits bright indoor spaces.

How big does Clusia Rosea grow indoors?

Indoors, it can grow into a medium to large upright plant over time, making it suitable as a floor feature.

Why are the leaves turning yellow?

Yellowing is often linked to overwatering. Allow soil to dry slightly between watering and ensure good drainage.

Top Tip

If you lightly scratch a small message onto a mature leaf, it will remain visible as the leaf heals, just do not damage the leaf deeply.
