Alocasia Nobilis

Alocasia Nobilis Information

Natural Habitat

Alocasia sanderiana is native to the rainforests of the Philippines. It grows in warm, humid environments beneath the forest canopy where light is bright but filtered.

Growth Habit

This Alocasia grows upright from a central rhizome, producing arrow shaped leaves with strong veining. Growth is most active in spring and summer and slows significantly in winter.

Alocasia Nobilis - Full Care Guide

Light - Place in bright, indirect light. Avoid direct midday sun which can scorch leaves.

Water - Keep compost lightly moist but not saturated. Allow the top layer to dry slightly between watering.

Humidity - Prefers higher humidity. Group with other plants or use a humidifier for best results.

Temperature - Thrives between 18-26°C. Avoid exposure below 15°C.

Soil - Use a chunky, well draining mix that allows airflow around roots.

Feeding - Feed monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser.

Propagation - Can be propagated by dividing offsets during repotting. Ensure each division has healthy roots attached.

Is Alocasia Nobilis difficult to care for?

It prefers consistent care, warmth and humidity. With stable conditions and correct watering, it thrives indoors.

Why are the leaves drooping?

Drooping is often a sign of underwatering or temperature stress. Check soil moisture and avoid cold conditions.

Does Alocasia Sanderiana go dormant?

Yes. During cooler months it may slow growth or drop a leaf. This is normal and growth resumes in spring.

How big does Alocasia Nobilis grow?

It remains relatively compact compared to larger Alocasia types but produces bold, upright leaves that make strong visual impact.

Top Tip

Alocasia Sanderiana dislikes cold roots. Keep it away from chilly windowsills and use a well draining mix to prevent soggy compost.
