Fishtail Hoya Plant
Hoya Polyneura

Baby Hoya Polyneura, commonly known as the Fishtail Hoya Plant, is a trailing hoya with distinctive narrow leaves marked in subtle fishbone patterning. It’s refined, a little different and perfect for plant lovers who appreciate detail.

Unlike thicker leaf Hoyas, Hoya polyneura has slimmer, more flexible foliage that cascades beautifully from shelves and hanging planters. In bright, indirect light, it grows steadily and develops longer trailing stems over time.

As an easy care hoya, it suits UK homes well when given good light and allowed to dry slightly between waterings. Compact when young and more flowing as it matures, it brings softness without being high maintenance.

If you want something unusual but manageable, Baby Hoya Polyneura is a strong addition to any indoor jungle.

Trailing. Textured. Totally mesmerising.

Why we love it:

🌿 Unique fishtail shaped leaves
🌿 Intricate dark veining pattern
🌿 Beautiful trailing growth
🌿 Can produce clusters of delicate, star shaped flowers

Fishtail Hoya

Fishtail Hoya Information

Natural Habitat

Hoya polyneura is native to parts of the Himalayas and Southeast Asia, where it grows in warm, humid environments and often climbs or trails along trees.

Growth Habit

This is a trailing epiphytic plant that produces long, flexible stems with narrow, patterned leaves. Growth is strongest during spring and summer.

Fishtail Hoya - Full Care Guide

Light - Place in bright, indirect light. Too much direct sun can scorch the leaves.

Water - Allow compost to dry partially between watering. Hoyas prefer to dry slightly rather than remain constantly wet.

Humidity - Prefers moderate humidity but adapts well to typical indoor conditions.

Temperature - Thrives between 18-26°C. Avoid exposure below 15°C.

Soil - Use a light, airy mix with bark and perlite to ensure good drainage.

Feeding - Feed monthly during spring and summer with a diluted liquid fertiliser.

Propagation - Propagate easily from stem cuttings with at least one node. Root in water or moist compost before potting up.

Is Hoya polyneura easy to care for?

Yes. It prefers bright light and drying out slightly between waterings, making it manageable for most growers.

Does Baby Hoya Polyneura flower?

Yes. Mature plants can produce small clusters of star shaped flowers under the right conditions.

How fast does Fishtail Hoya grow?

Growth is moderate in bright, indirect light and slows during winter.

Can Hoya polyneura be grown as a hanging plant?

Absolutely. It is naturally trailing and looks best when allowed to cascade.

Top Tip

To keep the green and white foliage vibrant, rotate your Aglaonema Kiwi every couple of weeks so it grows evenly. Balanced light prevents leaning and keeps the plant looking fuller and more compact.
